F.L.O.

The First Lady's Organization (F.L.O.) of St. Stephen A.M.E. Church is a unique organization. Our foundational scripture is, "And whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as to the Lord, and not unto man, knowing that of the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for you are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23 The F.L.O. was born out of the heart of Rev. Carolyn L. Vessel, a former staff minister, who felt a call from the Lord to be of special service to then First Lady of St. Stephen, Sis. Robin H. Tyson, now First Lady of the North District of the Chicago Annual Conference. Rev. Vessel recognized the demands of the position of First Lady and wanted the sisters to do a little extra for Sis. Robin. Together with others who shared her desire, the FLO was organized. Even after Rev. Vessel went on to be a Pastor, we continued the ministry to the First Lady. The organization is unique in that its main function is to pray for the First Lady, bring her a little extra encouragement and support in whatever way we can. We do so individually, collectively and cheerfully as unto the Lord. We bless the First Lady on her birthday, at Christmas and sometimes, "Just Because." We are now blessed with a new First Lady, Rev. Ericka N. Bailey and we are committed to continuing the ministry of the F.L.O. Rev. Bailey wears many hats?wife, First Lady, preacher, mother?and so, as we have done in the past, we try to give her all the support that we can and undergirding her with prayer. The F.L.O. meets once a quarter (when announced). Past presidents have been Sis. Hattie Warren, Rev. J. Thomas, and Sis. Yvette Young. Our current president is Sis. Ruth Wideman; Vice-President Stewardess Linda Ganter.
